MSC ALESSIA, a container ship belonging to NSB Niederelbe Schiffahrtsgesellschaft Mbh & CO KG, reached Constanta at the end of December 2015, up to January 2016, for extensive repairs works. The main job was fabrication of 1 new designed piece bulbous bow (abt 148 t) in order to replace the old one and increase the ship’s fuel consumption efficiency. The installation of this bulbous bow grand block assembled by the Shipyard was performed after cutting the old one (abt 200 t). Approximately 2 weeks in dry-dock were necessary for removal of existing bow block section and installation of the prefabricated new one, including internal treatment for coupling areas, propeller removal/refitting and normal docking works.
Other important jobs performed onboard of the vessel were related to DD standard works, i.e. to check the tail shaft weardown and rudder clearances, valves overhauling, propeller removal, cleaning the anchor and chains, the chain locker and the sea chest. The paintwork of the vessel was thoroughly restored. Prior to painting the top sides, boottop, vertical side and flat bottom were HP water washed and fully grit blasted.
