SIMON STEVIN - project completed
On 12th of November 2024, after completion of her commercial obligations and having finalized the contractual negotiations and project’s preparation, the specialized unit “SIMON STEVIN”1, a fall-pipe and mining vessel, LOA = 191.50 m, width = 40 m, built in 2010, sailing under the flag of Luxembourg, operated by Jan de Nul N.V., Belgium, has safely arrived and berthed Constanta Shipyard pier, ready for her docking & repairs works.
As per agreement, the ship was indocked on 15th of November in our Gravy dock #2 and developed a significant volume of works, meant to prepare the vessel for her next years of operations.
Amongst the main jobs done by our staff during ship’s staying alongside and in the dock, worth to be enumerated:
Ø Treatment hull & other areas :
Treatment HPFW 350 - 450 bar washing up to 11,979 sqm, 100% treatment hydro-blasting pressure up to 2500 bars combined with grit blasting for the flat bottom & painting works on hull and various ship’s structure s/ outfitting .
Extensive scaffolding erection, treatment & painting works for helideck platform structure, various tanks, pipes store structure
Ø Steel work renewal
o Structural steel : more than 40 t in stone holds
o Soft steel works: aprox 40 tons prefabrication & installation of Stone Bunkers , ladders and platforms
Ø Welding seams reconditioning – more than 40 rm
Ø Pipe works: renew various lengths of pipes on specific ship’s systems
Ø Mechanical & electrical works:
o Moonpool doors : Remove /refit hydraulic cylinder (4 nos); renew hinge bushes (4 nos) => Centralisation cylinder : Removal (4 nos) & overhaul (1no); Overhauling of various electric motors
o Assistance to Client’s specialised service engineers for all propulsion units – 8 units in total, during the docking period ; replacing one azimuth truster with spare onboard
Considering the extensive volume of works both related on underwater area and above waterline, the ships was successfully launched on 23rd of December and delivered during Christmas Eve 2024 to the satisfaction of her Owners.
